Group 1.

The legends of King Arthur began to appear in the twelfth century, and it is possible that they are based on a Celtic leader in the fifth or sixth century who defended his country against Saxon invasion. King Arthur was the son of Pendragon, and was born in Tintagel in Cornwall. He was brought up by Merlin, an old Celtic magician, and became king of Britain when he was fifteen. He proved his right to be king and received the magic sword Excalibur. King Arthur lived in a castle at Camelot. His knights sat at a round table so that they were all equal – nobody was sitting at the head of the table. Many of the stories in the legends are about the adventures of the knights, among them Lancelot, Perceval, Gawain, and Galahad. They spent their time hunting wild pigs, having feasts, and singing ballads. They often had to kill dragons and giants. At all times they behaved very correctly, with respect, honour, and compassion.

How King Arthur got his sword Excalibur

Narrator: Arthur’s father was King Pendragon. Some years later he died and many people wanted to be king. A magical stone appeared in Camelot. There was a sword in it and an inscription on the stone: The one who can pull this sword from this stone is the true King of England.

Arthur: Hello, my brave knights! Hello, my friend Lancelot! Have you heard the news?

Lancelot: No, what?

Arthur: There will be a tournament in Camelot soon. I know you are the best warriors in our kingdom. Let’s go and take part in it!

Knight 1: Great idea!

Knight 2: Let’s do it! We’ll be the winners!

Lancelot: Oh, my friends! I’ve got a problem. I haven’t got a sword. What shall I do?

Arthur: Don’t worry! Look! There is a sword in the stone... Eh... What is this? "The one who can pull this sword from this stone is the true king of England".

Knight 1: Lancelot, you need a sword to fight, right? Have a try!

Lancelot: Sorry, it’s hard. I can’t do that.

Knight 2: Let me try to pull it from this stone! ... No, it’s impossible!

Arthur: OK, my friends. It’s my turn. ...(he has pulled the sword) It wasn’t difficult at all. Here it is, Lancelot. Take it! You need this sword to enter the tournament.

Lancelot: I can’t believe it! How did you do it? It’s amazing!

Merlin: My dear friends! My name is Merlin, the magician. I can explain everything. This is Arthur, Pendragon’s son and the true king of England! Long live to the king!

All together: Long live to the king!

Group 2.

Robin Hood is a legendary hero who lived in Sherwood Forest, in Nottingham, with his band of followers. Stories about him and his adventures began to appear in the fourteenth century, but the facts behind the legend are uncertain. Was Robin Hood a real person? It’s difficult to say for sure.

Everyone knows that Robin Hood robbed the rich to give to the poor. He chose to be an outlaw. He fought against injustice, and tried to give ordinary people some money taken from the rich. Robin Hood had many qualities - he was a great sportsman, a brave fighter, and was very good with his bow and arrow.

He dressed in green, lived in the forest with his wife, Maid Marion, and his men, among them Friar Tuck, Allen a Dale, Will Scarlet, and Little John.

His main enemy was the Sheriff of Nottingham, who was always trying to capture Robin but never managed to do it. If you go to Nottingham today, you can see a statue of Robin Hood there.

How Robin Hood met Marian in Sherwood forest

Narrator: Marian wanted to find Robin Hood in Sherwood forest. She loved him and missed him very much. One day she dressed herself like a knight and went off to look for Robin.

Robin: Who is there? Hey, what’s your name and where are you going?

Marian: Let me go through the wood! I’m not afraid of you!

Robin: Not afraid? If you are so brave, then fight! (starts fighting)

Marian: I can fight well.

Robin: But I am stronger than you!

Marian: Stronger? You are just a boaster!

Robin: OK. Stop, stop it! I can see now you are brave enough to be one of my men.

Marian: Robin, is that you? I’ve been looking for you so long!

Robin: My dear Marian? What a surprise!

Marian: I’m so happy to see you again.

Narrator: She told Robin how unhappy she was and put on a knight’s clothes and came to look for him. (Robin’s friends appear)

Robin: My dear friends, this is Marian, my beloved.

Friar Tuck: Hello, Marian. Glad to meet you.

Little John: Weren’t you afraid to come? It’s dangerous here.

Marian: I know. But I couldn’t wait any more! I missed Robin so much!

Friar Tuck: Then stay with us!

Little John: Yes, let her stay in the forest, Robin!

Robin: OK, I will. Be my wife, darling?

Marian: Of course, I will!

Little John: Wow, we’ll have a great dinner! Hooray!
