Тема: «Экологические проблемы современности»



Цели урока:

  • формирование знаний о трех самых главных экологических проблемах;

  • активизация лексического материала, развитие коммуникативной компетенции у обучающихся.



Задачи урока:

Образовательная:

  • реализовать умения разговорной речи;

  • совершенствовать умения поискового и просмотрового чтения;

  • научить применять полученные знания при решении экологических проблем;

  • формировать понимания необходимости заботиться о нашей планете.




Развивающая:

  • развивать воображение, мышление, память;

  • совершенствовать умения работать в группах;

  • развивать познавательный интерес студентов к предмету.



Воспитательная:

  • воспитать адекватное отношения к проблемам окружающей среды;

  • формировать чувства сотрудничества, толерантного мышления;



Тип урока:

совершенствования знаний, умений и навыков, полученных ранее, и целевого применения усвоенного



Вид урока:

комбинированный с применением ИКТ (изучение и первичное закрепление знаний).



Метод урока:

словесный, наглядно-иллюстративный, контроль, оценивание, поощрение.



Формы организации деятельности обучающихся:

- мозговой штурм;

- фронтальная работа (вопрос – ответ);

- групповая работа и работа в парах.

Good morning, class! I’ m glad to see you. How are you? Today we are going to speak about things which are very important for us.

Look at the screen! What associations come into your mind, when you hear the word environment.

(nature, wildlife, sea, river, animals, air…….)

You are right! The word “environment” has different definitions. I’d like to tell you some of them.

The word environment means simply what is around us.

Environment is the land, water, and air that people, animals, and plants live in.

Every year many people around the globe get more and more environmentally concerned. First of all we pay attention that we drink dirty water, breathe bad air, animals, birds and forests disappear, there is a lot of trash on the streets. Though we live in a small town, we should also think about ecology and environment. Because we make harm to ourselves.

If you don’t think about the future, you will not have it.

T: let’s remember what the word “Ecology” means. What includes this word? What do you think of if you hear this word?

T: Ecology (Greek “oikos” - Home) is a science which studies the relationship between all forms of life on our planet with its environment.

Nowadays people understand how important it is to solve the environmental problems that endanger people’s lives.

What’s happening now to our Earth?

What problems do we have?

I’d like you to read the texts and answer the questions. I’ll divide you into 3 groups

Read the text and translate it. You have 4-5 minutes. Try to find out the main ecological problems.

* Garbage problem

This is very common in third world countries. The people do not have access to information to proper waste disposal that they end up mismanaging their garbage. This is evidenced by heaps of garbage in inappropriate areas and water systems. Some people also tend to burn their garbage leading to more environmental problems.

The best way to solve this is to educate the people on garbage segregation. The people must also find ways on how to recycle their waste materials so that there will be little need to create more landfills in the future.

* Air pollution

Industrialization is, perhaps, the main culprit for the growing air pollution in many countries. It is good that the more advanced countries are also now focusing on looking on more environment friendly methods of production in order to minimize the effects of industrialization to the environment. Industrial smoke from factories and the smoke from vehicles are now being reduced through the use of other sources of fuel and energy other than fossil fuels.

* Water pollution

The waters of the world are great sources of food and materials for man. However, if the natural habitats of fishes and other marine animals are contaminated, marine resources become depleted, which could eventually lead to food shortage.

People who live near the shores and other bodies of water should learn how to properly dispose their solid and water wastes so that the natural ecosystem will not be contaminated. Environment-friendly detergents, soaps and other solutions should also be used in order to prevent marine life poisoning.

Draw an outline of Figure 2 and write the problem inside the circle. Make a list of all the problem’s possible causes and write them on the lines. The simpler causes are written close to the head and the solutions are written near the tail. Then, once again write the statement expressing the problem in terms of what has been learned.













Students demonstrate their divergence ability (finding many original solutions) and convergence ability

(constantly evaluating their ideas to improve them and modify them to fit the problem-solving objective). It is imperative that students be able to interact and exchange ideas so that they can expand on their suggestions.

Students should listen and add to the ideas of others. However, students should avoid criticizing the ideas of their peers and should accept ideas that are far-fetched.

I have some rubbish: a glass bottle, a plastic bag, a newspaper, a banana peel, a traffic ticket, a woolen sock, a wooden stake, a wax paper cup, a painted wooden stake, a tin can, a plastic bottle, a glass container! Think a little bit and match the litter with the card of time.

Answers:

a glass bottle – 1 million years, a plastic bag – 10-20 years, a newspaper – 6 months, a banana peel – 2-5 weeks, a traffic ticket – 1 month, a woolen sock – 1 year, a wooden stake – 4 years, a wax paper cup – 5 years, a painted wooden stake – 13 years, a tin can – 100 years, a plastic bottle – up to 500 years, a glass container – forever.

What can we do to solve this problem?

We can all do our bit to help solve the problem by remembering the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.

REDUCE. We’ve all got to try to reduce the amount of rubbish we throw away. We can do that by buying unpackaged goods, like fruit and vegetables, rather than goods which are wrapped and packaged in plastic. The less that's thrown away, the more we help the environment.

REUSE. Try to use things as many times as possible before you throw them away. For example, you're given some plastic bags at the supermarket to carry your food home in. Do you use them again? Most people don't. It would be much better for the environment if they did. Your kids have grown out of their old clothes. Don't just put them in the bin - think about giving them to charity. Somebody probably wants them.

RECYCLE. Glass, paper, plastic – they can all be recycled.

Recycling cuts down the waste going to landfill sites and also means factories need to produce fewer new bottles and packets and paper. That means there's less pollution going into the atmosphere from the factories. It also leads to fewer trees being cut down to make paper.

So, let’s sum up. What can we do to solve the problem?

Your home work will be to find out the information about any organization which protects our nature. You can do your homework either in English or in Russian.

In conclusion, I believe that all of us must do our best to be green and as environmentally friendly as possible. The whole future of the planet is in our hands. That’s why I’d like to present you the pot with plant and it will be the first step to adopt a piece of the earth! You have leaves for this tree. Write you promise how you are going to save our PLANET.
