I Greetings: Good morning, students! I’m very glad to see all of you today.
II Motivation. Aim.
My friends, let’s start our lesson. I want you to read the statement on the blackboard and say if you agree with it.
People create a lot of waste that can end up harming the environment.
What do you think we are going to discuss today?
Do you want to learn more about ways of helping our environment? Let’s see what you already know.
We know | We want to know | Now I know |
People create a lot of waste that can end up harming the environment | What does the term 3R’s mean? In what way is it related to the protecting environment? |

III Warming up
Now I ask you to look at the screen and to watch the clip of Michael Jackson’s song. Your home task was to read, to translate and to realize the sense of this song. You are to try to pronounce all the words of this song properly while singing it and to express your ideas about what our today’s lesson will be devoted to. (учащиеся смотрят клип и поют песню Майкла Джексона «Песня Земли»).
What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain.
What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop this notice
This crying Earth the weeping shores?
What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son...
What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine...
Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop this notice
This crying Earth the weeping shores
I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far
IV. Main part of the lesson.
Teacher: Mankind believed for a long time that whatever we did, the Earth would remain the same. We know now that it isn’t true. There are a lot of problems that people face nowadays. But the most urgent problem concerning people of the world is an ecological one.
Well, and you know that we don’t take care of our planet properly so we have many problems with our ecology nowadays. I have a surprise for you. Do you see this box? ( учитель показывает коробку со знаком черепа и перекрещенных костей). We have already studied the meaning of the signs and this is one of them. Who can tell me what does it mean?
Students: Watch out!
Teacher: That’s it. Let’s open the box and check it. (учитель открывает коробку). You deal with all these things in everyday life and they somehow connect with our today’s topic of the lesson. Your task is to take out one of them and name it.
Students:
Aliminium can
Banana peel
Traffic ticket
Old batteries
Glass container
Plastic bag
Plastic Bottle
Tin can
Deodorant
Wool gloves
Wax paper cup
Teacher: I think it is interesting for you to know how these things influence our ecology. I’ll give you a text and your task is to find some information about a thing that you have chosen.
It takes 1month to decompose traffic tickets.
Banana peel’s litter lasts up to 6 months.
Wool gloves’ litter stayed unchangeable for 1 year.
It takes 100 years to decompose a deodorant.
Tin cans’ litter lasts 100 years.
Aliminium can’s litter stayed unchangeable for 500years.
It takes 500 years to decompose plastic bottles.
Glass containers’ litter lasts forever.
Old batteries’ litter stayed unchangeable for 500 years.
It takes 5 years to decompose wax paper cups.
Plastic bags’ litter lasts up to 500 years .
Students give their answers.
Relaxing
Teacher: I see that you are tired let’s have a minute of relaxation. (звучит расслабляющая музыка со звуками живой природы) Sit comfortably. Close your eyes and imagine that you are in a forest near the lake. You are lying on the green grass. The weather is fine, the sun is shining brightly. A light wind is blowing from the sea. The birds are singing. Your brain relaxes. You are relaxing. The air is pure, breathe in, breathe out. (Pause). Now open your eyes.
Vocabulary practice (P. 23, ex. 1)
Teacher:Useless things which we throw away have a lot of names:
LITTER, RUBBISH, GARBAGE, WASTES, TRASH and they all appear on a DUMP
Look at the pie chart and comment on it. What makes up our rubbish?
Your suggestions. (
Students give their answers.
Teacher: Where does rubbish come from? What do we throw away every day?
What problem can they cause?
Pupils discuss in pairs and share their opinions.
Teacher: Do you know what does the definition «Tree R’s» means? People all over the world often speak about the «Three R’s». This sign stays for three words: REUSE,REDUCE,RECYCLE
Student:
Recycle To use an object in a different way.
Reduce To make something smaller.
Reuse To use an object again.
Reduce the amount of rubbish we make.
Reuse things: don’t throw them away.
Recycle things: find other uses for things.
Reading and Listening (P.23, Ex. 2)
Teacher: Let’s read the text and you will be able to speak about some simple ways of solving the environmental problems. Complete the task individuele.
(Students listen to the text and check their answers)

Teacher: Work in small groups, please and insert your words in the sentences. You have 3 minutes to do it.
In our family we recycle … . It helps (not) to …
We also reuse … . It helps …
We reduce …
Teacher: Let’s check it.
Students give their answers.
Student: Man is producing more and more waste and that is why it is so important to recycle as much as possible. Otherwise we will use up all our resources and be overrun with waste and rubbish.
The recycling logo consists of three chasing arrows each representing a stage in the recycling process: rubbish is put in the correct bin, material is collected by recycling trucks, and lastly the consumer buys products made from recycled material.
Some materials such as glass and aluminium can be recycled over and over again so it makes sense to recycle drinks cans and bottles rather than throw them away. You can help by buying recycled products. Clothes, glass products, paper products and much more can all be purchased in recycled varieties. Come on! Help reduce the rubbish by recycling and buying recycled products today!
Presentation by Konova Lisa
Teacher: Well, students, it’s time to finish our lesson. It was great pleasure to discuss ecological problems with you.
In a world, it’s time to take care of our nature like a mother takes care of her only child. I want to say that there are many actions that each person can take every day. Think globally – act locally!
Save our environment!
“Hug the Earth” (by Lorraine Bayes).
Student: Walking along feeling free
Feeling the Earth here with me
And I love her, she loves me.
I hug the Earth, the Earth hugs me.
She’s our friend,
We’d like to be together forever.
The Earth is a garden.
It’s a beautiful place.
For all living creatures,
For all the human race.
Helping Mother Earth
We can peacefully roam.
We all deserve a place
We can call our home.
Food is a treasure from the soil and the sea.
Clean, fresh air from the plants and the trees.
The warmth of the sun giving life each day.
Turns water into rain, it’s nature’s way.
And I would like to thank you. Mother Earth,
I like to see you dressed in green and blue
I want to be by you.

Complete the table we drew at the beginning of the lesson. What have you learned?
Students complete the table and read their suggestions.
