Tell students in Unit 8 is all about transport



Introduce the title and ask students what the unit will be about. Have them look quickly through the unit to confirm. Focus on the picture of Tom. Ask what he is holding, then read the text and question. Elicit answers from the students, using present simple. What type of transport do you use every day?


Culture notes The road vehicles shown will be familiar in countries where people drive on the right – but remind students that in the UK people drive on the left.

Exercise 1 p 19 Ask students to underline the two-part verbs. Tell them that the second word is usually stressed, e.g. pick UP, get OUT of.

See which verbs students already know, then ask them to do the exercise in pairs. Play the recording for students to check answers. Then listen again and repeat with the correct stress pattern.

Ex. 2, p.19 - In pairs, students identify the types of transport, and then decide which transport verbs are used with them.

Exercise 3 p 19 - Students ask and answer the questions in pairs. Go round helping and correcting. Ask some students to report their answers to the class.
