Topic: Staying safe

Aims:

  • To practice vocabulary to the situation;

  • To practice the pupils’ speaking skills;

  • To practice the pupils’ grammar skills.

Vocabulary: words and word combinations connected to crime.

Grammar: The Passive Voice.

Lesson structure:

  1. Greetings:

  • How are you?

  • Who is on duty today?

  • Who is absent today?

  • What day is it today?

  • What date is it today?

  • What month is it now?

  • What season is it now? What is your favourite season? Why?

  1. Targeting: Today we will do a lot of exercises in order to practice the vocabulary and the grammar rule. We will learn how to use the passive forms.

  2. Warming up:

  • Would you give all your money to the attacker?

  • What is the function of the police?

  • Are thieves and pickpockets bad people? Do they deserve to be punished?

  1. Revising the vocabulary:

Let’s use the vocabulary in sentences. Translate from Russian into English:

  • Не гуляйте поздно вечером, чтобы избежать возможного нападения;

  • Следует посещать курсы самозащиты, чтобы избежать захвата злоумышленника;

  • Преступник схватил ее;

  • Я всегда гуляю в хорошо освещенных местах;

  • Уйти – лучшая защита;

  • Попытайтесь не стать мишенью;

  • Она было беззащитна;

  • Используйте здравый смысл;

  • Он отвлек грабителя;

  • Остерегайтесь воров-карманников;

  • Похитители людей очень опасны;

  • Здесь много хулиганов;

  • Я невиновен!

  • Суд вынес вердикт.

  1. Сhecking the hometask:

Ex. 6, 7, 8 p. 90; WB. Ex.3, 4, 5 p. 60.

  1. Moving activity:

My hands upon my head I place;

Om my shoulders, on my face;

Then I put them in front of me;

And gently clap one, two, three!

  1. The Passive Voice. Revising.

Let’s complete the following tasks:

Task 1. Open the brackets using Present, Past or Future Simple Passive.

Many houses (to burn) during the Great Fire of London. 17. His new book (to finish) next year. 18. Flowers (to sell) in shops and in the streets. 19. St. Petersburg (to found) in 1703.
