  • Stratford is one of the oldest market town in the central part of England. It stands on the river Avon. Around Stratford there are beautiful forests, green fields and quiet a little river – Avon.

The early years  William’s father wanted his son to be an educated person at the age of 7 William was sent to the local grammar school and where he studied for 6 years and got a classical education. Family life In 1582 Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. Hathaway was from a small village a mile west of Stratford. William was 18 and Anne was 26.

Their first child, a daughter, named Susanna, was born on May 26, 1583. Two years later, on February 2, 1585, twins were born ( a son Hamnet and a girl Judith) . Hamnet later died of unknown causes at the age of 11.

After the birth of the twins, there are seven years of William Shakespeare's life where no records exist. Scholars call this period the ”lost years”.

In 1587 Shakespeare went to work in London, leaving his family at home. There is a story that Shakespeare’s first work in London was holding a rich men’s horses at the theatre door. The Globe Theatre.   Shakespeare helped to build a new theatre called “The Globe” on the bank of the River Thames . It was opened in 1599. It was round and there was no roof on this building. There is a Royal Shakespeare theatre in Stratford. It was built in 1932. Only Shakespeare's plays are performed there for eight month each year from April to January.

William Shakespeare wrote most of his plays for the Globe Theatre.  His dream became true. He acted only small parts, but his experience as an actor helped him greatly in the writing of his plays.
