Theme: Baiterek, mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassaui
Aim: to acquaint students with the history of the appearance of the Baiterek towerand mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassaui.
Objectives:
1) Ensure that students learn new vocabulary during the lesson.
2) Foster a sense of patriotism.
3) Develop reading and speaking skills.

In the Kazakh legend it is written that the Life Tree which is called “Baiterek” grows on the bank of the world river. Samruk the holy bird of happiness is flying to it to lay a golden egg in the nest, located on its top. Egg symbolizes the Sun granting life and hope. But beneath, there is Aydakhar, a wicked dragon, hiding among the roots, and wishing to eat the egg.
So the Kazakh version of the universe looks. And quite recently, Baiterek from a folklore symbol turned into the fine tower reminding of fight of the good and evil. In 2002, in the center of the capital of Kazakhstan the monumental structure of Baiterek was opened. It marked a new stage in life of the people, and became a symbol not only Astana, but also all country.
The general height of a tower makes 97 meters, apart from an underground floor where aquariums, “Baiterek” gallery and small cafe were placed. As a support 500 piles serve, and the weight of a tower exceeds 1000 tons. Thus the big glass sphere at Baiterek's top has diameter of 22 meters and nearly 300 tons weigh. In a tower passes the elevator which can lift visitors on height of 86 meters where there is a panoramic hall with a beautiful view of Astana. Besides in a hall took place the wooden globe with 17 petals, symbols of all religious trends of the world, and a print of a palm of Nursultan Nazarbayev – the first President of Kazakhstan.
