1.Warm up (W, D)

-What do you know about Pocahontas?

-Why do people call her “a child of peace”?

Today you’ll get more information about Pocahontas.

-Look at picture on page 18. What can you tell about this girl?

-There are some words in the box, let’s check their meaning in your vocabularies.


2. Activity 1 Reading (W, f) SB: Ex. 1, p.18

Let's read the text. During reading, you must underline with thee pencils the words which are in the box. After reading, you must answer the question. Why do people call her “a child of peace”?

Answer key: Pocahontas is called “a child of peace” because she tried hard to promote peace between her people and the English colonists.

3. Activity 2. (P, f) SB: Ex. 2, p. 18

Students work in pairs. They read the text again and do the task, choosing one of the answers. Then one student reads the answers aloud, the other students check.

4. Activity 3 (G, f)

Students work in groups. They make sentences for Pocahontas, using cards. Then the teacher shows the correct options for the sentence and the students check themselves.


Pocahontas’s father was an Indian chief in Virginia.

Pocahontas wanted people to live in peace.


The English arrested her and put her in prison.


The English colonists settled in Virginia trying to start a new life.


Pocahontas had good manners and the English didn’t hurt her.



5. Activity 4 (P, f) WB: Ex.3, p. 12 in copy books

The teacher writes on the blackboard the verbs from Exercise 3 on page 12. The teacher draws attention to the fact that these verbs will need to be used in the Past Simple. Pupils call the second form of regular and irregular verbs, the teacher writes them on the blackboard.

Students work in pairs and fill the gaps with the appropriate verbs from the list using the Past Simple.
